Word of the Year

In his e book The Big Sort (subtitled “Why the clustering of like-minded America is tearing us apart”), Bill Bishop put it merely: “Mixed company moderates; like-minded company polarizes. Heterogeneous communities restrain group excesses; homogeneous communities march toward the extremes.”
Schumpeter’s third spouse, Romaine Elizabeth Boody, whom he married in 1937, suggested him on the right way to promote his concepts over these of his arch-rival, John Maynard Keynes, who advocated for presidency intervention and regulation. A revered economist in her personal proper, Boody urged Schumpeter to make his claims greater and to coin his personal time period—“creative destruction”—which he did in his 1942 masterpiece Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy. In that quantity, Schumpeter boldly declared that inventive destruction outlined capitalism itself: “This process of Creative Destruction is the essential fact about capitalism,” he wrote. “It is what capitalism consists in and what every capitalist concern has got to live in.” Here is the punch line: as a result of the maverick entrepreneur is “the pivot on which everything turns,” he ought to be given free rein to behave and never be hampered by regulation. Complexity & Creativity

You’re doing no matter you’re purported to do. But there come instances while you’re not doing what you’re purported to do and also you’re simply form of rambling, making unusual connections.” —Pete Seeger
Ultimately, it’s my perception that social networks are methods that may be deliberately designed, and intelligently managed, to make sure that their major impression is a optimistic one for the individuals who use them, and for the world. This is an optimistic concept that was the unique spark for the creation of platforms, and a promise that’s been painfully deserted within the years since. But I believe we now have realized sufficient classes for it to nonetheless be price making an attempt to make one thing that works for the world.
